Local and international news would be covered, along with "major local sports and social events". By the early 2000s, NTV exclusively broadcast content provided by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, due to the country's dire economic situation and NTV's lack of a functioning camera. Its capacities were subsequently expanded with the assistance of AusAID. In 2002, UNESCO reported that NTV's "only locally produced programme is a popular daily half-hour news bulletin produced by NTV personnel in the S-VHS format. Local news items are shot utilising three field cameras which double as studio fixtures for post production". NTV broadcasts both in Nauruan and in English. In 2004, the government of President Ludwig Scotty, seeking re-election, ordered Nauru Television to broadcast the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Four Corners programme on past economic mismanagement under former President Rene Harris, every evening during the week before the election. Harris complained that NTV "had refused to give him equal time to present his side of the story". Scotty was re-elected.

They don't think about our live, just they think about the money." 22. Locals watch bus full of asylum seekers leaving quay STORYLINE: The Australian navy has landed another hundred asylum seekers on the tiny Pacific island state of Nauru where they are to live in a makeshift camp. About 100 refugees on board the HMAS Manoora came ashore on Thursday. Some of them said their journey had been dangerous but they had faced death in Afghanistan and Iraq before fleeing. On Wednesday another 100 refugees had arrived after three weeks at sea. The refugees are part of a group of 433 mostly Afghan asylum seekers who were rescued from a sinking Indonesian ferry last month. The Norwegian cargo ship that rescued them near the remote Australian territory of Christmas Island sparked an international war of words over who was responsible for their welfare. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees has said Australia is responsible for finding new homes for the refugees once their status has been determined. Another group of 230 Iraqi and Palestinian refugees was picked up in Australian waters two weeks ago and transferred to the Manoora.
